Breakdown
Nah, nothing in the ways of an emotional breakdown. Just breaking the song down for analysis. What song? The one currently streaming. All I Can Say by David Crowder
In a way, the lyrics remind me a lot of the psalms in the bible.
In the first verse, he starts off by telling his condition. Tired, lonely, weary. Sounds hopeless. Something we can (at least me, if not for you) all connect with.
The chorus speaks of him offering whatever that is left of him. Almost like a protest, but kinda subtle.
In the second verse, the complaints get more audible. He cries out, but goes unheard. His devotion to God seems forgotten.
The chorus again, and he says that this is all that he has to give and say, because and despite his corcumstances and condition.
Then, the bridge, he becomes aware that he wasn't abandoned. He wasn't alone, God was there with him, for him, weeping with him as he wept, comforting him, washing his feet.
Now the chorus, although the melody is the same, it somehow takes a brighter tone. He knows what he has is not much, but it is everything he has, and he gives it to God.
The 'complaint' psalms in the bible, if you notice, all have this pattern. The author/poet first starts out wailing, crying, complaining to God, telling their plight with self-pity. Some even ask God to bring judgement on their enemies (which is a lot wiser than bringing it down on them yourself).
But somewhere along the way of their wailing and crying, they realize that God is Almighty, and has always been there for them. Their psalm always takes a turn for the better and ends up praising God as opposed to complaining about their life.
Of course, some psalms are an exception, since I am speaking in general here. But isn't that true?
When we blog about something, or write poetry when we despair, we always start out bitter, or angry, frustrated or irritable. But somewhere along the way of writing it, something changes, we get comforted somehow, almost like our burdens are lifted. And we end up praising God (if you don't, well, I can't help much then).
Hmm...well, in other news, once again I find myself in the midst of a firefight, but not as an active combatant. Sorta like, the shit hits the fan, and it's neither my shit nor my fan, but I get splattered anyway. Heh. Sorry if it sounds gross.
Well, just want to tell those whom the shit and fan belong to, trust in God. Might seem hard, and you're filled with a gazillion questions about why, and you're just clueless on what to do, but just don't let God be too small for the moment. God is big. Way bigger than any of our miniscule minds can comprehend. Like in my perspective checks, God is way way bigger than the universe (and we can't even comprehend the vastness of the universe).
It's not about you. It's about how God can be glorified no matter the circumstances.
Sighs. A caring heart is more a curse than a boon. At least for the one who it belongs to. Yippee for everyone else.
Anyways, I think I'll say something about why a God of love would let mass-destruction and death happen. The age old question of why Tsunamis and Earthquakes happen. Not that I have a good answer, I just have an answer. All this, and maybe more, in my next post.
